My Aquarium 2: The Molting

I found one of my dragonflies (the sixth one in this post) was a little unusual this morning. I looked it for a while and I found it’s going to change a new dress!

The process lasted about 20 min. Now the dragonfly is bigger and more beautiful. But its skin was soft at the moment so I removed other fish in the box in case they harm it.

Maybe this is the last molting before it becomes an adult. I’m looking forward.

So why not allowed? They never harm anyone...it could be a project cause I really hope to feed it until it grows up...~\(≧▽≦)/~

  5. What great shots of nature in action. Dragonfly nymphs are so fascinating. Something so prehistoric looking, turning into those gorgeous dragonflies. I look forward to the adult image when you capture it. Do you know the species of dragonfly? Or do you have to wait for the adult to emerge?

  6. Wow..who knew you can keep dragonflies!!!i wanna try too^^...but what do i feed them??and where can i get them??

  7. Windwalker--you can get them at your local pond, dig around in the muck and the mud and if it is a healthy pond it will most assuredly have dragonfly nymphs. They are predators, so lots of insects would be on the diet.

Thank you. I know little about dragonflies. My friend has told me what species they might be, but I want to wait for the adult to emerge. Maybe I have to wait for weeks.

Like MObugs said, you can find them in pond or reservoir with plants in it. Don't forget to catch some small fish, shrimp and tadpoles to feed them.

If there is a pet market in your town, you probably can find dragonfly nymphs among the small fish that sold to people to feed their bigger aquarium fish.
