Summer of 2009: Rainforest 4

Today I gonna show you the other insects I shot in the forest.

A colorful leaf beetle. 1cm

This is the largest “tortoise beetle” (Chinese name of insects of Cassididae) I’ve ever seen. I love its crystal elytron with metallic gold  pattern shining in the sunshine.

A gray young mantis on a gray rock. I would have missed it if my friend did’t pointed it to me.

A big flying cockroach finally stopped on defoliation.

This is the only walking stick insect species we found there, yet the quality is quite large in August.

A beautiful moth’s dream was interrupted by us.

Marvelous Beetles "Really Belong to Me"

I’m dreaming of these marvelous stag beetles, fruit beetles and rhinoceros beetles everyday, but I’ve no chance to own many. Now photoshop gathers a box of beautiful Asia beetles (except the first one from South America) for me. Haha!

Exaggerated Antenna

Look at this amazing beetle, how big his antennas are! The male beetle’s huge gill-shaped antennas are features of Melolonthidae family, which contains the largest number of species in Scarabaeoidea. This is Polyphylla laticollis Lewis, one of the biggest beetle in Beijing. I got it near the village (here) where one of my friend was working as I’ve memtioned in previous post. We searching bugs together and found it under a light.

Insects in Baiwangshan

Baiwangshan is a small hill near our school. Though the species there are not very abundant, I often climb it because it's the only place where I can searching insects nearby.
