How marvelous the froghopper is! The nymph make a lot of foam, like saliva spitted by someone at plant, and hide itself in it for protection.
Saiva gemmata (Westwood,1848). I’ve never seen this kind of insect before, which is often called “chicken” in China. I don’t know why.

Ming--these are gorgeous! I love that first grasshopper image, that is the craziest looking grasshopper I've ever seen. The "chicken" is a gorgeous insects, lovely colors! It is so wonderful to see the diversity of insects from other countries. We tend to get "used to" our own native species and they seem to loose that sense of awe for us at times.

ReplyDeleteThanks. The green things you mentioned are indeed its hind legs, one of which was what the second grasshopper missed as I noted. They are much stronger than others for powerful jumping.
