Flourishing Wintersweet

The wintersweet flowers (Chimonanthus praecox) in CAU campus are flourishing these days, much later than those in Kunming, Yunnan Province.

Plum flowers are considered as a symbol of perseverance in Chinese culture, for they only bloom in cold winters. "Plum flowers braving the snow", as the saying goes. Most people believe that wintersweet is a kind of plum. However, plum belongs to the family of Rosaceae, but wintersweet is a member of Calycanthaceae. Now you see, they are totally different species.
